XENA chain links to Gold Standard

Having a motorcycle stolen is not only a devastating experience, it can also be very costly: insurance excess payments, loss of no claims bonus, and in some cases expensive repair bills if the bike is recovered. Investing in security devices can save the heartache, inconvenience and costs incurred from theft, but many riders can be put off by the high purchase price of quality equipment - around half of UK riders don't lock their machine at all*.

Prices for XENA's new XSU69 lock and chain start at £100 (for 1.1m length) and both lock and chain are tested and approved to the SoldSecure Gold Standard**, so riders can benefit from the highest quality security devices without paying top prices.

Constructed from high-grade stainless, inert gas-hardened and chro-moly steel, the padlock repels drill and hammer attacks and is also 100% corrosion resistant. Its 18mm chrome steel U-Bar features an Anti-Twist Shackle, designed to resist attempts to rotate it open in either direction, even if one side is cut free. And with 250,000 possible key combinations XENA's specially developed maximum security key and barrel is pick proof.

Complementing the padlock is XENA's ultra high security chain. Available in 1.1m, 1.5m and 2m versions, it is manufactured from high-grade alloy steels and is three-stage case hardened to give maximum possible resistance to saws and bolt cutters. Fitted with a durable woven sleeve to help protect the bike from damage, it is also supplied with a handy bag for storage when not in use.

XENA is committed to ensuring its entire product range can be relied upon to protect vulnerable and valuable machines, and submits all devices to independent test across the world, including SoldSecure (UK), Classe SRA (France), ART (Netherlands) and VAT (Finland). For details of their compete range call Motohaus Powersports on 01256 704909 or visit www.motohaus.com

* Anecdotal evidence suggests that as many as 50% of riders do not lock their machines. Source: The Facts About Theft, MCIA Resources.
**SoldSecure is an independent body funded by UK insurers, and administered by the Master Locksmiths Association. They assign three levels of security certification: Bronze, Silver and Gold. To qualify for the Gold standard, security devices are subject to lock picking, drilling, slide-hammering, sawing, a ‘wedging test' and a torque test. SoldSecure testers ‘attack' 6-8 samples of each device, to ensure quality throughout the range, and study technical drawings before the tests to determine weak points. Each type of device is subject to further annual testing, to ensure levels of security are maintained.

Pump up your Trident with Norman Hyde

Concerned about the shortage and quality of old stock oil pumps for classic Triumph Tridents, Norman Hyde has created a brand new pump that is a straight replacement for the original. While the factory-fitted items have proved reliable, it is 35 years since the last Trident rolled off the production line at Meriden and many machines have covered high mileages by now, so demand for replacements is steadily increasing.

Hyde worked in Triumph's Experimental Department when the triple was introduced in the late 1960’s and has based his design on original factory drawings, specifying modern materials and machining methods to create a more durable and reliable product.

"With modern CNC machining, plus a quality of materials that was not available 40 years ago, these fine oil pumps will perform better than the original ones and last longer," says Norman.

Lubrication provided by a reliable oil pressure is essential to these potent air-cooled engines and requires a pump in peak condition, so the purchase price of £176.25 including VAT could be a wise investment for owners looking to get the most from their Trident.

Hyde’s pump will fit both T150 and T160 models as well as the BSA Rocket 3.

WEISE Rainmeister 1-piece Oversuit

On average up to 10” of rain falls in Britain every summer, with localised thunderstorms increasing the prospect of getting caught in a downpour, so the Weise Rainmeister 1-piece oversuit will provide practical insurance against getting soaked. StompGrip traction pads for BMW S1000RR

Getting the best from high performance sports bikes like BMW's S1000 RR requires high levels of control and riding technique. It can also be physically demanding, especially when covering long distances on the road or riding on track. StompGripTM Traction Pads are designed to help improve machine control and riding technique, as well as helping to reduce fatigue, by making it easier for riders to grip their machines using their knees.

Custom designed to fit on the bike's fuel tank and frame, StompGripTM Traction Pads use volcano profile traction bumps to give the rider increased contact with the motorcycle; improving lower body grip, reducing upper body fatigue and in turn, helping to eliminate arm pump - a condition which results from gripping the handlebars too tightly.

StompGripTM Traction Pads attach to the bike using genuine 3M adhesive that will not damage paintwork when removed, and are manufactured from a non-abrasive material, which won't damage leathers. They are available in clear material, which allow decals and paintwork to show through, and black versions too.

Tried and tested by the California Superbike School, StompGripsTM are available for a wide range of sportsbikes and in universal kits for other bikes. The BMW S1000 RR kit retails at £37.99. For more information call 08700 677 617 or visit www.v2mal.com

Next generation Cat1 alarm from Acumen with Superhet technology

Acumen's next generation motorcycle alarm, the Tempest Cat1, features a Superhet receiver that reduces transmitter interference from spurious radio waves. Short for super heterodyne, Superhet technology enables the receiver in the alarm to lock onto the signal from the transmitter in the key fob and ignore other radio interference in the environment.

New look Knox Dry Inside base layer

Knox has given its Dry Inside base layer a fresh new look for 2010. Designed to keep the wearer dry and comfortable throughout the seasons, this technical collection of base layers combines the natural comfort of cotton with the wicking properties of synthetic fabrics.

Made from 95% cotton (and 5% lycra for a comfortable fit), Dry Inside is unlike normal cotton base layers because it wicks moisture away, leaving the wearer feeling dry and fresh. It achieves this because the material is treated with 3XDry® from Schoeller - The Feelgood Technology.

So the uncomfortable stickiness of a normal T-shirt or pants on the skin is diminished and unattractive perspiration marks are practically invisible from the outside. Added to this, the natural cooling-effect makes the wearer feel really good and energised.

Ideal for motorcycling, mountain biking, hiking, horse riding and most outdoor sports, Knox Dry Inside is easy to care for as it is machine washable. To refresh its 3XDry® properties simply turn inside out and iron.

The range includes long and short sleeve tops (at £29.99 and £27.99) and matching long and short pants (selling for £24.99 and £19.99) respectively, all in sizes XS – XXL.
Call 01900 825825 or visit www.dryinside.co.uk

What is 3XDry®?

1. Dry on the inside: moisture resulting from perspiration is quickly absorbed from the inner side of the textile with 3XDRY® treatment and distributed over a large surface area, before and escaping to the outside. This stimulates a cooling effect.

2. Dry on the outside: the 3XDRY® treatment reliably repels moisture, reducing the effect of dirt and stains. As only the inside of the textile absorbs moisture, perspiration marks are practically invisible from the outside.

3. Dry in a flash: the distribution of the moisture over a large surface area ensures rapid evaporation. Therefore, textiles with 3XDRY® dry noticeably faster.

Give your Bonneville a racy makeover with Mr Hyde

Although it is named after the Bonneville Salt Flats in the USA, where Triumph made attempts on the world motorcycle speed records, the 'Bonnie' enjoyed considerable success on the Isle of Man, where Malcolm Uphill scored his famous victory in the 1969 Senior TT on a factory prepared Bonneville, recording an average lap time of 99.99 mph.

Norman Hyde, (who was working in Triumph's Experimental Department in 1969), produces a range of styling accessories for the modern 'Hinckley' Bonneville that capture the appearance and spirit of the racing motorcycles from the 1960’s.

Bodywork parts include a fairing designed to accept the original headlamp, (at £433.58 including VAT), single seat unit (£276.13) and race profile front & rear mudguards (£185.65), all made from high gloss self colour fibreglass and supplied with fittings. A matching rear light sells for £42.30.

Fitting Hyde's alloy rear set footrest kit (£258.50) and ace handlebars (£47.00 ) helps to create a sportier riding position, while a bar end mirror (£52.29) will be a useful safety feature that won't detract from the racing look.

Completing the look and feel with an authentic 'Brit twin' sound, owners can choose from TX silencers that are modelled on the original Triumph race pipes (£364.25 as pictured) or the reverse cone peashooter type (£334.88), both suitable for carburettor and fuel-injected machines.

For the ultimate finishing touch, Hyde offers a hand made alloy petrol tank. Produced exclusively by the company that made many of the tanks for the factory racers, this is a pedigree item. Supplied with all mountings, including the race type rubber strap, the TX tank costs £821.33. See “99.99 Triumph” at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iI4iyURV7iQ

See the Doctor to prevent bugs spreading

Insects can really bug motorcyclists. These unfortunate creatures get splattered across the front of a vehicle and can cause severe damage to unprotected surfaces, particularly front forks, affecting plastic parts like fairings and screens. Even if treated quickly, bug-splat can be difficult to shift, so German cleaning specialists Sdoc100 decided that prevention was better than cure.

SDoc100 Insect Protector prevents insects and dirt from adhering to surfaces - permanently. To apply, ensure that the bike is clean then spray the product sparsely and evenly over the entire front of the motorcycle - headlight, screen and all painted, plastic and metal parts. Wait for about 3 minutes (without letting the spray dry) and wipe away with a clean, soft and lint-free cotton or microfibre cloth. Simple; and it makes the motorcycle easier to clean too, minimising the risk of insect corrosion.

Sdoc100 Insect Protector is compatible with wax polishes and retails at £12.95 for a 300ml can. Information on the the complete range of Sdoc100 premium care products can be found at www.sdoc100.co.uk or call 01256 704909. See the video at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mrMQ4sTv3K8

Remember, if it doesn't say Sdoc100 it isn't from Germany’s No1…
Notes - Do not use on helmet visors as, in certain circumstances, there could be a glare hazard.
